Title Auroral oval boundary census 1992–2026 (DMSP SSJ/SSJ-5, SSIES, SSUSI)
Creator Huijun Le
Subject auroral oval;magnetic pole drift;auroral boundary;space weather
Publisher Xiukuan Zhao
Description The dataset contains a census of ~570,000 auroral oval boundary crossings derived from four DMSP instrument chains (SSJ/SSJ-5 precipitating-particle boundaries, SSIES thermal-plasma boundaries), and SSUSI EDR-aurora image boundaries (spanning 1992–2026 in both hemispheres), with geographic coordinates, dual-epoch AACGM magnetic coordinates, and matched Kp. Also included: per-epoch logistic fits of the Mohe Observatory aurora-visibility threshold; the East Asian Solar Cycle 25 storm-event table; the geomagnetic-index series actually used in the analysis (3-hour Kp/Ap from GFZ, hourly Dst from Kyoto WDC, hourly OMNI2 solar-wind/IMF from NASA CDAWeb, converted to CSV).
DMSP SSUSI auroral emission data is provided by NASA (https://cdaweb.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/data/dmsp/dmspf18/ssusi/data/edr-aurora/). DMSP SSJ/SSJ-5 precipitating-particle data and SSIES thermal-plasma data is provided by NOAA (https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/dmsp-space-weather-sensors/access/).
