Title Water level and barometric pressure observation data obtained from CENC (China Earthquake Networks Center)
Creator Yan Zhang
Subject Groundwater observation data (water level and barometric pressure)
Publisher Xiukuan Zhao
Description Six wells of groundwater and four wells of barometric pressure are selected in this study. The location (longitude and latitude) of each observation data (water level and barometric pressure) is show in the Excel file. All the observation data comes from the digital observation instruments of those groundwater stations of the China Earthquake Networks Center. The water-level and barometric data of selected wells are of high quality, and the selection is based on the catalogs provided by provincial earthquake administrations and institutions (China Earthquake Administration, 2004). Besides, the selected well is away from the coast to minimize the effects of ocean tides. If no barometric pressure is measured near the groundwater monitory station, we use barometric data from stations within ≤ 75 km (mostly ≤ 28 km). Barometric pressures at different stations on the North China Platform shows close similarity before and after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

Date 1-The tidal response analysis of water level : water level data are observed from May 1st, 2008 to June 30th, 2011, during which two huge earthquakes occurred (the 2008 MW 7.9 Wenchaun earthquake and the 2011 MW 9.1 Tohoku earthquake).

2-the barometric response analysis are mainly focused on the 2011 Tohoku earthquake: both the water level data and the barometric pressure data are from December 1st, 2010 to March 11th, 2011 (~ 3.5 months) before the earthquake; and from April 1st, 2011 to July 10 th, 2011 (~ 3.5 months) after the earthquake. While, only well Qinxianmanshui focused on the Wenchuan earthquake: both the water level data and the barometric pressure data are from February 1st, 2008 to August 31th, 2008.
Type Water-level are documented with a LN-3A digital instrument with an accuracy of ≤ 0.2% full scale, resolution of 1 mm, and sampling rate of 1 per minute. Barometric pressures are documented with a RTP-1 digital instrument with a sampling rate of 1 sample/min.
Format the *.DIG format data (can be read directly using the software of MATLAB, et al.) has been stored in each file. In each data file, there are two sequences: the left column is the time (year-month-day-hour-min), and the right column is the water level (unit-m) or the barometric pressure (unit-hPa).
